In October 2023, the Cameroonian Students’ Association at the Regional Maritime University (CERCARMU) hosted its first general meeting with the new cohort of students from Cameroon. The meeting, held in a spirit of unity and excitement, was led by the then-president, S.E. Afa’aasseh Folloh Mbah, alongside his vice, Tayo Deffo Loic Steve, The Personal adviser Miss Shirley and the former president, Tany Many.
The event was a remarkable gathering, symbolizing the association’s commitment to providing a sense of belonging and support for freshers as they embark on their academic journeys at RMU.
In his opening remarks, President S.E. Afa’aasseh Folloh Mbah warmly welcomed the new students and encouraged them to feel at home within the CERCARMU community. “This association is more than just a platform; it’s a family,” he said, emphasizing the importance of unity and mutual support. He also urged the freshers to actively participate in the association’s activities, saying, “Together, we grow stronger.”
Vice-President Tayo Deffo Loic Steve spoke next, encouraging the students to make the most of their time at RMU by engaging both academically and socially. “We are here to support you, but your success will also depend on how much effort you put into building yourselves and each other,” Steve emphasized.
The former president, Tany Many, shared his personal experiences, highlighting how being part of CERCARMU not only enriched his academic life but also gave him lifelong connections and leadership skills. “This is your chance to not only study but grow into the best version of yourselves,” he said, inspiring the audience with his story.
The meeting also featured an interactive session where freshers introduced themselves, asked questions, and shared their aspirations. Many expressed their excitement about joining CERCARMU and learning from the more experienced members.
In closing, the executive team outlined the association’s upcoming events and plans for the academic year, encouraging students to actively participate. The meeting ended with group photos, light refreshments, and a renewed sense of camaraderie.
This first general meeting set the tone for a vibrant and productive academic year, marking the beginning of a shared journey between new and returning students within CERCARMU. The association looks forward to great achievements with its growing community.
